Foods to avoid as a cancer patient
It is always advisable to cancer patients to observe their diet especially during Chemotherapy. Below are some of the foods that Cancer patients should avoid:-
- Hot and spicy foods
Cancer patients should really avoid food with hot peppers and spices.
- High fiber foods
Patients should shy away from foods with high-fiber as it is not good for their health. Some of these foods with high fiber include raw fruits and vegetables etc.
- Fatty, greasy, or fried foods
Foods with fatty acids such as fried meat, fried chips, fried fish should be really avoided as these may cause unnecessary complications to cancer patients.
- Excessive intake of salt and sugar.
- Red meat and processed meats such as bacon, ham, sausages etc.
Cancer patients should have proper diet before, during and after treatment. Some of the below foods are that are good for their health include:-
- Fresh fruit
The best choices are fruit that is refreshing, easy to eat and high in water content.
It is easy to eat and promotes healthy digestion.
Carrots, peas, pumpkin and turnips are essentially rich in vitamins and fibre. Cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage contain plant chemicals that can convert bad Oestrogen into good Oestrogen and hence reduce cancer risk as well as the risk of a relapse, bitter gourd for lowering blood sugar levels, green vegetables for calcium and iron.
Oranges provide vitamin C, which is essentially good for the body, Bananas, kiwi, peaches, mangoes, pears and strawberries are also good for vitamins and fibre. Avocadoes, guava, apricots, figs, prunes and are good for energy.
Rice, noodles, chapatti, wholegrain bread, wholegrain crackers, oats, corn, potatoes, beans, dairy products are all rich in carbohydrates, which are good for the body. It is also advisable to consume honey in moderation since it’s good for its anti-bacterial and anti-fungal elements which may help in preventing infections.
